Course Description
This introductory course explores the foundational exercises developed by Sanford Meisner, one of the most influential teachers of modern actor training.
Rooted in the principle of truthful behavior under imaginary circumstances, the Meisner Technique trains actors to move their attention outward, listen deeply, and respond honestly in the moment.
Through the core Repetition Exercise and related work, actors begin developing the essential skills of presence, listening, and authentic response.
Students learn to:
• focus their attention fully on another person
• respond instinctively rather than intellectually
• trust impulses and emotional responses
• build genuine connection with a scene partner
Whether you are just beginning your acting journey or looking to deepen your craft, this class provides a powerful foundation for truthful acting in theatre, film, and television.
Instructor
The course is led by Paul Hopkins, an actor, director, and teacher with over 30 years of professional experience in theatre, film, and television. His work emphasizes attention, presence, and authentic human connection at the heart of performance.
