EXCESS: The Preview
Right Play. Right Place. Right Now!
EXCESS: A Cuban American Canadian Comedy about Sex! Shopping! and War!
A Preview at The Haskell · November 13–15, 2026
Be among the first to see EXCESS, the fast, funny, ferocious new satirical revenge comedy by Governor General's Award winner Kent Stetson, C.M., months before its World Premiere.
For three performances only, some of Canada's finest actors take the stage of the border-straddling Haskell Free Library and Opera House for a high-energy, full-tilt preview, while the U.S. midterms are still hanging in the air. It's Hollywood ego, American exceptionalism, Cuban resilience and Canada's fiercely defended cultural identity, all colliding in one very upscale Montreal flat.
Then It's Your Turn
After every performance, stay for a talk-back with the cast and production team. Tell us what made you laugh, what hit home, and what you want more of. Your voice will help shape EXCESS for its ten-day World Premiere at The Haskell in March 2027.
Saturday GALA: VIP Panel
Following the Saturday, November 14 GALA performance, join us for a VIP panel discussion. Leading voices from Canadian and American politics and the arts will respond to EXCESS in a genuine cross-border dialogue about the play and the moment it speaks to. Panelists to be announced.
If demand warrants, a second panel may be added following the Sunday, November 15 performance.
"First Iraq," Prime Minister Jean Chrétien said in 2003, "then who is next?"
Who indeed?
