EXCESS: A Cuban American Canadian Comedy about Sex! Shopping! and War!
The World Premiere of EXCESS will transport three nations to one border-straddling theatre. Five of Canada’s most accomplished actors will rise above the Maga-maelstrom, proclaim Canadian sovereignty, engage Americans of good heart and fortify Cubans’ right to self-determination.
In November 2026, Trump’s America will take its midterm temperature. We’ll be on stage, inside The Haskell Theatre which sits astride the Quebec/Vermont border, with buckets of ice water and a two-act, five-character satiric revenge comedy at the ready, just in case!
We are self-producing, community-minded, nation-building theatre artists who range from fifty eight to seventy eight years of age. Each of us is a well-seasoned, highly-tuned theatrical wizard. We routinely shape “such stuff as dreams are made on” into the how and why of daily life. We provoke. We explore familiar landscapes and open new territory. We soothe and challenge, build empathy, open hearts and change minds. We’re deadly serious, mad as hell, and very funny.
Timing Is Everything. EXCESS, the new revenge comedy by Governor General’s Award winner and Member of the Order of Canada playwright Kent Stetson, tested well in a public reading before a sophisticated audience. The consensus? After years of development, time and the play have achieved synchronicity: This no-holds-barred comedy is ready to do its boisterous upbeat work.
The charming 400-seat Can/U.S.A. Haskell theatre is booked for a six-show run November 12-15. The principal actors are engaged. The creative team is working to capacity, fighting for Canada’s well-being. Let’s work together. Before they tariff our prime export: Canadian Comedy!
Tempus Fugit. The lead time to access severely diminished public arts funding is currently eight months to two years. 10% of our 120-k production budget from private sources is already in hand. We offer a range of tax-deductible options, including a modest kick-off GoFundMe campaign.
